I find myself getting to the beach every chance I can this summer! This is our first summer since moving back to NYC from Los Angeles, and finding apartments that come with a pool in the city is pretty much impossible! While hotel days are fun it can get pricey (and way too packed!).
Instead, we head to the beach early, get a great spot, and wait for our friends to join!
I’m sharing some easy tips on how to plan for a beach day this summer!
What to wear
I like to layer up when it comes to going to the beach. It might seem crazy at first, but if you’re planning a full day, it can definitely get a little windy at night depending on where you are! I usually opt for a swim suit, shorts, and a linen button down along with a hat. I’ll pack a t-shirt as well just in case.
Beach bag essentials
100% sunscreen! Make sure you go for a sunscreen that’s at least SPF 50. I like to touch up throughout the day just to be safe! I didn’t let go of tanning oil until I was in my 20’s and wish I had said goodbye to it sooner. I always bring a pair of sunnies and a hat as well, plenty of hair elastics, and some SPF lip balm! We always bring our favorite massive beach blanket along with beach towels too. It’s so much easier to just have a couple large blankets when there is a group of us instead of solely beach towels.
Food & Drinks
This is obviously the most important when it comes to planning a great beach day. If we’re being honest, I plan everything around food. Trips, dates, weekends, you name it, and I am most likely planning food around it. As a general rule, always over prep when it comes to food for beach days, camping and the like. Everyone ALWAYS gets hungry.
My favorite snacks for the beach:
- Tortilla chips and salsa
- Guacamole for everything
- Premade sandwiches
- Fruit bowls
- Pasta salad
Aside from plenty of water we love to stop by Walmart on our way to the beach and grab some Dr Pepper!
How cool is their new #PickYourPepper packaging!? It is so awesome that this new packaging is designed by millennials, for millennials! Be sure to lookout for this cool new packaging at your local Walmart.
