Welcome to my first Blogging to be BOSS post!
Blogging for me has been such an amazing experience so far. I thought I would start writing a blogging column, so that you can start your own blog and learn tips along the way! First off, in no way am I saying I’m an expert, but I have learned a lot in the short time I have been blogging. Why not share the knowledge right!? Today I’ll be talking about the first steps you will take in starting your blog!
Choosing a Domain
This can be a daunting task. It is so so important to choose a domain name that reflects what you want your blog to represent. I would definitely go with a .com if it is available. People tend to associate browsing online with .com. Avoid numbers or hyphens in your domain name. You want to choose a domain that is easy to remember. I chose The Cult of She because my blog is targeted at women and I knew I wanted my blog to be focused on female empowerment and living your best life. If you’re unsure if the domain is taken or not just do a quick search here.
TBH I am a serial domain name buyer.
Whenever I have an AHA moment when it comes to businesses, I immediately purchase the domain name related to my business idea. I’ve even had a few domains bought from others which is always a bonus when my ADD mind bounces to another idea. Take out a notepad and jot down some ideas as far as domain names go. Also include how they would relate to what it is you’re blogging about.
Find a Host
Basically out a hosting service is what will make your blog accessible to the WWW(World Wide Web) part of your .com. If you are planning on using WordPress then I 100% recommend using Blue Host. Their plans are super affordable which was a big bonus for me starting out. I think some are even as low as 2.95/month, but you can find more in depth information here.
Once you have chosen a host you can now log in to your C-Panel and click download WordPress after selecting which domain to download it for.
Those are the first steps in creating your blog! Next up I will be sharing my top themes for fashion and lifestyle blogs. Happy weekend everyone 🙂
