As a 20 something living in Los Angeles, it is so important that I have a solid community women in my life. It was definitely lonely at first, but soon I attracted a tribe of women who inspire me each and everyday. No matter what city you are in big or small, you need a community. While I’m so thankful for my friends back in Vancouver, and New York, as well as my current circle of friends in Los Angeles, I know it’s vital for me to forge friendships in the blogging community, which is what drew me to The Other Festival.

The event was centered around bringing together female makers and creators for a day full of expert panels during the day and an all female music festival in the evening. I took away so much valuable advice from this event, and look forward to attending more women centered conferences in the future. The Other Festival re-ignited my passion and drive to be successful in all my endeavors. And believe me, there’s a ton. I’m definitely a serial entrepreneur. It might be because I’m a pisces ( to a T), or I wear too many hats, or even because I just can’t figure out what I am meant to do.

Here’s the thing, I was drawn to New York at  very young agin, I just knew I had to be there. Eventually, at 22 years old I moved from Vancouver to New York. By myself and without knowing  a soul, I started working towards my dreams. But that’s a different story for a different time.

I probably own more domains than necessary. I have started and failed at ventures I just wasn’t passionate about. And I have about 1000 different ideas each morning. To be honest, I actually bought this domain a few years ago, but didn’t know what it was going to be.

I don’t know how he does it, but my husband has actively supported every one of my crazy ideas. Even when I can’t really wrap my head around it, he’s still in my corner pushing me towards success. From clothing lines, to dog walking businesses, to social media management, and everything I’ve done in between, he’s been a constant support. It wasn’t until I decided to turn this into a blogging platform that everything sort of clicked. I knew I needed to express my creative side somehow and at the same time forge a community of like minded individuals.

My hope for The Cult of She is for it to be so much more than a fashion blog. I want it to be inspiring, resourceful, and impactful on people’s lives in a positive way. There is so much more to come and I hope you all stick around for the ride!

There were so many panels full of invaluable information it’s hard to pin point favorites. However, I did narrow it down to a few that really hit home with me.

Jody Levy , co-founder of WTRMLN Water on choosing the right investors for your brand :

  • Know your product and where you want to get it to
  • Curate the right tribe of people around you.”
  • Believe in the energy of money
  • Never raise money out of desperation
  • Create a strong board of advisors
  • Be really picky with the humans you surround yourself with

Karen Robinovitz, founder of The Digital Brand Architects:

  • Isolate a niche
  • Don’t ask for permission
  • Pay attention to what you care about, the money will follow
  • Create a bumper sticker version of your ideas
  • Stay stimulated
  • I am a big believer in taking risks and making things happen.
  • Don’t take no for an answer. And laugh at yourself if need be. Don’t take anything for granted and work for what you want.

Brett Heyman, founder of Edie Parker:

  • My advice to all the young women I work with is to be nice to everyone. In life and at work. And that there is no such thing as a fashion emergency.
  • Fail fast
  • Work on company, and not in company
  • Invest in your back office and legal structure
