Home sharing during the Holidays
With the holidays around the corner it’s time to start thinking about both your holiday travel and hosting plans. Renting our place out during the holiday season has been a huge help in earning extra cash for one of the most costly months of the year: December. Whether you rent your home out through Airbnb, HomeAway, or another rental site, you need to start thinking about protecting the valuables in your home. The last thing you want to do over the holidays is stress about your place.
Another thing to consider is a security system. With a smart security system in place, you don’t have to be at home to keep tabs on your property and belongings. Imagine sitting down on your beach chair on vacation and you suddenly can’t remember if you locked the door to your home before you left. New technology is now available that may help prevent unwanted intrusions or let you keep an eye on what’s going on inside and outside of your home, no matter your location.
Even if you already think you are covered, you may need more than a typical home insurance policy to prepare for the additional risks involved and Allstate wants to make sure you’re in good hands, especially over the holidays when you may have extra valuables in your home. Which is why we went with Allstate HOSTADVANTAGE® ! With Allstate HOSTADVANTAGE® you can be protected against damage caused by temporary renters or theft to your belongings while your home is being rented.
This wasn’t even something on our radar until we started hearing horror stories of past guests destroying furniture, having parties at people’s houses, and pocketing items. Luckily we haven’t had anything like that happen, but I feel safe knowing I’m covered.
If you are on the fence about renting your home out during the holidays, take the leap and do it! It’s such an easy way to earn extra income. Last year our hosting income paid for our flights back home, dog boarding, and gifts!
We take full advantage of the alone time we have in the weeks leading up the Holiday season by taking a mini trip somewhere. We knew if we rented our home out during the time we were away we would break even. We ended up only having to pay for food since our hosting income paid for our hotel!
Our favorite place to escape to for a weekend before the busy holiday season is Big Sur.
Big Sur is seriously one of the most beautiful destinations I have been to. I’m so happy we decided on Big Sur as our destination before the holiday season kicked off! I still can’t believe it’s only a 6 hour drive from Los Angeles. When it comes to getting here, the journey is just as memorable as the destination. Be sure to make the most of your trip and stop along the way, take pictures, and make memories. The rugged and untouched coastline is something words cannot describe. All I can say is: We will be back!
Where we stayed
Ventana Big Sur : 48123 Highway 1, Big Sur, CA 93920
This hotel/spa is literally what dreams are made of. Ventana is surrounded by 243 acres of beauty and wooded hillsides and 1,200 feet above the Pacific. Hello beautiful views 24/7! If you’re in need of some bliss in your life and ultimate relaxation, you need to go here. We couldn’t have picked a more calm and rejuvenating place to go to before a crazy Holiday season full of travel. My favorite amenities in the hotel were the Japanese Hot Baths and the dry sauna. The views from the sundeck ain’t bad either!
