When we decided to move back to New York from Los Angeles last December we knew it would mean some serious downsizing. Apart from skincare and shoes, i’d say I’m pretty good at the whole “less is more” way of living. Scha is a way better minimalist than I’ll ever be, so I let him take over when it comes to decorating and choosing pieces that are both functional and nice to look at. Our color scheme tends to stay the same no matter where we live: grey, grey and more grey. With a few other neutral tones to switch it up.
Today I’m sharing our favorite pieces for our New York apartment.
Our bedroom is a lot bigger than I expected and we actually managed to snag an apartment with a HUGE closet. I’ll share pictures of our space soon we are in the middle of scheduling painters so stay tuned! Anyways back to the bedroom. I knew we had to incorporate shelving because I have quite a few books and even more skincare. I loved the style of the wall shelf seen below and we ended up installing our own be utilizing the indent in our bedroom wall to add shelves.
Since our NYC apartment is a lot smaller than our one back in West Hollywood we really needed to find compact kitchen items without sacrificing our aesthetic. Enter simplehuman. There products are sexy. I guess I’m an adult if I get this excited about kitchen products right?
What’s great about simplehuman is that there products have a five year warranty! I don’t think I can ever turn back now that I have there products in our apartment. I was so sick of looking at cheap, plastic dish racks and when I came across there compact steel frame dish rack I fell in love. Yes it’s compact but is able to hold full size dinnerware. My favorite feature is the swivel spout that drains the water without having to lift and tilt the dish rack. My husband will tell you I’ve been guilty of breaking a few plates/wine glass in the past attempting to drain our dish racks.
On top of needing a dish rack I wanted a sink caddy to hold our sponges and brushes. The goal was to keep the area around our sink clean and minimal. I love that the simplehuman sink caddy has the air holes to help drain the water and maximize air flow!
Now I know nobody wants to talk about garbage, BUT what if your trash was so good you had to talk about? That’s who I am now, the woman talking about her trash can when out with friends. It’s that good. We’ve always had issues with trash cans since we have dogs. We used to even keep it on top of our fridge because Norman LOVES to look for food. The simplehuman sensor trash can is tall and sturdy enough, Norman doesn’t stand a chance. We went with the brushes steel finish to match the rest of our appliances, btu you can choose from rose gold, black, white and even dark bronze. What we love most about this trash can is that it is hands free. No more awkwardly trying to open the lid while throwing out garbage. It opens with a simple hand movement. We love love it!
We are all about finding compact items for our place and would love to hear you favorites! Comment below and tell me your must have items!
